Groundhog day is a special day when people look for groundhogs and watch if they see their shadow, since this day was used as a weather prediction, if a ground hog sees it shadow then it will hop back into its hole and sleep for the next 6 weeks , if this happens we will experience more winter and it the groundhog doesn't see its shadow then they will get an early spring.
Groundhog Day was first celebrated in February 2nd , 1887 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.In 1887 an editor declared that the groundhog in Punxsutawney Pennsylvania was "America's true only weather Forecaster". through out the generations of groundhogs,Phil's groundhogs were the most famous.The prediction for Punxsutawney Phil is "when it is sunny there will be 6 more weeks of winter weather , he has had a 39% (or more) accuracy.Canada'a own celebrity Wiarton willie's predicts an early spring.
